| I have wide experience teaching the flute to all ages and standards,
beginners to post grade 8. Preparation for exams or just for fun! Flute duets every lesson, with piano accompaniment when relevant. Free consultation lesson and chat.
I have successfully taught
the flute for several decades: I support my pupils in their musical aims –
using a variety of techniques and resources. Some pupils work towards exams
but most play the flute for pleasure whilst developing their skills and confidence.
I am at home teaching beginners or advanced pupils; new learners or
returners; and enjoy the variety my flute teaching brings.
I hold regular informal concerts so that pupils can develop confidence in a
supportive environment, and we often play as a group on these occasions. I
enjoy seeing everyone develop their playing.
I have a full DBS/CRB certificate. On street parking available . Large, pleasant music studio with a beautiful view of Winchester.
I was educated at Chetham's and the Royal Academy of Music, and won the flute
prize and a Countess of Munster award, studying with Gareth Morris, Atarah
Ben Tovim, Patricia Morris and Sebastian Bell. I played the flute
professionally, freelancing, for example, with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic
Orchestra. Other work included solo recitals and early twentieth-century and
contemporary chamber music, on the flute, piccolo and alto flute.
I taught full time at a leading independent girls' school as head of woodwind
and brass (1989-1999). This gave opportunity for more diverse performances,
conducting orchestras, bands and flute choirs and class teaching up to A
level.
